Environmentally friendly demolition
The most challenging phases of the demolition work started in 2010 when the old tower block was demolished over a 1 year period.

Cranes of different sizes (one of them the biggest in Norway!) with cement-cutting jaws ate their way to the ground, and cut down large concrete structures.
The spectacular 'Big Boom' was not carried out, because of the dust and vibration problem for the nearby hospital. It was important that the demolition took place with as little disturbance as possible to patients, visitors and staff at the hospital, as well as those who live and work in the area.
The aim was to reuse at least 95% of the rubble either for the new buildings or as landfill. This aim was more than fullfilled.
