Patient Hotel

Many patients who are currently admitted to traditional wards are actually too healthy to be a hospital in-patient. But they are often too ill to be at home, or they need to be close to a hospital for other reasons.

A very important feature of the patient hotel are 19 guest rooms for mothers with newborn babies. The patient hotel is also suitable for patients undergoing treatment or observation who need a place to stay near the hospital, with access to clinical care. A typical example is cancer patients undergoing short-term radiotherapy.

The hotel is also suitable for patients who need day surgery, and live far from the hospital. Guests at the Patient Hotel should be self-sufficient, or have a family member with them to help them.

St. Olav´s Hospital is a regional hospital for a large area where the fjords and mountains may make it difficult for patients to commute to the hospital for a course of treatment. For these people, the Patient Hotel is a good compromise. Here, they can be more self-sufficient, but still have access to professional care or assistance round the clock.

The Patient Hotel will support all the clinical centres. The hotel will be within easy walking distance from the hospital, with a link via a heated walkway or underground corridor. In phase 1, the hotel has 110 rooms, 69 of which are hospital controlled and 40 which are 'regular' hotel beds.
