The new hotel opens two weeks ahead of schedule, and is expected to bring welcome relief to St. Olav's Hospital 100% + occupancy rate. The modern hotel offers 110 rooms to patients and the public, with one wing specially intended for parents with new born, healthy babies.
The king arrived galloping up the street on a white horse, shouting that "if St. Olav's Hospital opens St. Olav Hotel, then St. Olav must be present!" After the ceremonial ribbon cutting, invited guests were invited to sample the restaurants lunch menu.
Rooms may be used by admitted patients (e.g. recent mothers, chemotherapy patients) whose stay is paid by the hospital, by anybody (tourists, guest speakers) who pay hotel prices, and relatives of admitted patients who pay reduced rates.
