Business development

The hospital project offers great potential for business development. Decentralized units require major changes both in the organizational and operational model and in construction solutions.

The development will take place in phases over a relatively long period. The realization of the new university hospital will result in the need for further development of existing products and services, as well as the development of new ones. At the same time, there will be opportunities for carrying out more complex development projects.

Helsebygg Midt-Norge has been given responsibility for a business development project, involving national and local health-care institutions. "Business Development in the Hospital Sector" is Norways first national project with the aim of promoting product development in the health-care sector.

The project was launched at the beginning of 1997, and has received funding from the Research Council of Norway, Sør-Trøndelag county and Helsebygg Midt-Norge (former RIT 2000).

The hospital sector in Norway spends about NOK 15 000 million on products and services every year, of which imports make up about NOK 12 000 million. The objective of the project is greater value creation in Norway, as well as stimulating collaboration between small business and the university and college sector.

The project organization links decision-makers at all Norways regional hospitals as well as the Radium Hospital.

MANDAT OF THE PROJECT
- To identify the university hospital’s needs for better products and solutions.

- To coordinate shared needs at the university hospital and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

- To identify possible development and supplier companies.

- To create a network for communication and collaboration between the university hospital, research and development centres, business and government resources.

- To set up, co-ordinate and track specific development projects.
